I think it's fantastic Elton John played in Darlington this weekend. The live concert was held at the 25,000-seater Darlington Arena and was the first pop concert to be held at the stadium. I hope it’s the first of many such successful events.

It’s not the only historic first for Darlington FC, which was also home to the first ever black professional footballer. Arthur Wharton came to the North-East in the 1880s and his athletic talents served him well as Darlington’s goalie. Arthur was also the world's first 100 yard sprint record holder.
